London UK - 28th January 2008
It was announced today that CallKey, the international mobile roaming service has been restarted and all previously issued SIM cards (170,000) have been reactivated.
The assets, (not liabilities) of the former Isle of Man based CallKey Group Ltd. have been purchased by a new UK based company, CallKey Ltd owned by telecoms entrepreneur Gerry O'Prey.
The new company's objective is to transform the CallKey brand into a world leader in its field. Immediate improvements will be made to its operation as follows:
1. A new switching platform terminating exclusively via Tier 1 carriers. 2. A fresh new white label reseller channel. 3. A new Reseller Training & Support Office on the UK mainland. 4. New management team experienced in global telecom.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2003, the former CallKey Group company was based in the Isle of Man. The Company operated a Global MVNO ("Mobile Virtual Network Operator"), deploying innovative telecom services, with offices and/or facilities located in London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Los Angeles, New York and Tucson. The Company operated a GSM mobile service utilising proprietary technology, which allowed its subscribers to slash their international mobile roaming costs by up to 80%. The Company's patented "hub" technology bridged traditional fixed-line, mobile and Internet networks. The new company will continue to distribute CallKey's products exclusively through a global network of resellers.
Through its white label reseller channel CallKey had shipped over 170,000 SIM cards to subscribers in four continents, offering coverage in 115 countries. The new company will continue to offer highly discounted rates and free incoming calls whilst roaming in many countries. The CallKey service offers international rates lower than that of the incumbent mobile operators. +44 mobile numbers are linked to each SIM which work in any unlocked GSM phone.
CallKey Ltd CEO Gerry O'Prey says "Since it's inception in 2003 CallKey has been a leader in global SIM technology, and we are very excited about this opportunity. We will work very closely with all existing resellers ensuring that all outstanding service issues are resolved promptly. Our wholesale rates will be competitive and remain consistent ensuring a smooth operation for all our partners". He went on to add "I give my personal assurance that we will learn from lessons of the last few months and we will be a 'Listener' always eager to hear the feedback from our faithful resellers the world over".
